Deep within the mesmerizing rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His being was essentially pure, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to care for his herd of sheep.

Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the gales among the lone tree on the peak were his only associates. Day in day, guarding his wards imbued in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

Yet, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. In one such instance because of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome scheme.

Tales of wild beasts preying on sheep had long been circulating in the hamlet. So, the boy decided to used this fear and played a prank on the villagers.

One afternoon he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! A here wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to help but saw nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This prank continued for a few days more. However, one morning, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to receive a lesson on honesty and the consequences of false alarms.

The story of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once violated, is difficult to regain. It's a story as relevant today as it was in the past.
